Netflix has announced the official cast for its upcoming musical drama The Archies.
The live-action musical film is set in 1960s India and features Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Yuvraj Menda, Agastya Nanda and Vedang Raina, who will play the iconic role from Archie Comics like Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead.
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, The Archies, a feature film adaptation of the comics will be produced by Akhtar and Reema Kagti for Tiger Baby and Sharad Devarajan for Graphic India and will premiere exclusively on Netflix.
Netflix also released new short video, introducing each actor to the upcoming film.
Here’s the official synopsis: A musical experience bursting with youth, rebellion, friendships, first loves and everything young adult, it still promises to have something for every generation. The film has the iconic gang of The Archies’ at the center of it, and perfectly matches the youthful energy, hope and excitement of the sixties era.
Earlier talking about this collaboration, director Akhtar said, “I am super excited to have the chance to bring The Archies to life. It was a large part of my childhood and teenage years. The characters are iconic and globally loved, which is also why I am a little nervous. I have to make sure the film stokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic and yet resonates with the young adults today.”
The series marks the acting debut of Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, and Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan.
The Archies is based on the most popular Archie Comics, which were first published in 1941, created by publisher John Goldwater, artist Bob Montana with writer Vic Bloom
However, the official release date was not announced, but will be exclusively premiere on Netflix in 2023.
