Marvel’s creators and indigenous heroes to get the spotlight in ‘Marvel’s Voices: Heritage #1’

Marvel Comics will release Marvel’s Voices: Heritage #1, a special one-shot spotlighting Indigenous and First Nation creators and characters, including New York Times best-selling author Rebecca Roanhorse this fall. A follow-up to last year’s Marvel’s Voices: Indigenous Voices, the book will be on sale in print and digital this November.

Currently in its second year, Marvel’s Voices continues to expand and feature the work and lived experiences of Marvel creators and fans, painting the full picture of Marvel’s ever-evolving universe and showcasing how much Marvel truly reflects the world outside our windows.

Marvel’s Voices: Heritage #1 will turn the spotlight to new and established Indigenous writers and artists, including talents who contributed to the first Marvel’s Voices: Indigenous Voices title last year. These creators will come together for a series of short stories diving into the past, present, and future of the Marvel Universe.

Fans can get the full story behind River, the mysterious stranger from the pages of New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Roanhorse’s new ECHO series; discover Snowguard’s greatest hopes and fears in a tale by celebrated filmmaker and Snowguard co-creator Nyla Innuksuk; enjoy astounding artwork from returning pencilers David Cutler and Jim Terry; and look out for future announcements with brand-new talent making their Marvel Comics debuts. Additionally, purepecha artist Maria Wolf, who made a splash with her first Marvel cover last year, returns for an entire line of variants celebrating Indigenous characters.

For the past two years, the Marvel’s Voices line has provided a platform for diverse voices, showcasing some of the best Black, Latino, Asian and LGBTQ + creators working today. Last year’s Indigenous Voices one-shot was ground-breaking, a celebration of Indigenous creators and characters. However, it is not enough to simply release a one-shot—there must be follow through, and a continued commitment to give diverse voices a platform; at the same time Indigenous Voices was released, Marvel released Werewolf by Night featuring Indigenous characters written and drawn by Indigenous creators.

The upcoming week will witness the highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Voices: Identity #1, spotlighting Marvel’s legendary Asian heroes and creators, on 25 August. Fans can stay tuned for more information on which creators and characters will be featured in Marvel Comics’ latest celebration of diversity as the publication date for Marvel’s Voices: Heritage #1 draws nearer.

Marvel’s Voices: Heritage #1 is expected to release on 2 November 2021 from Marvel Comics.
