Wanda Maximoff, popularly known as the Scarlet Witch, will have her own monthly solo series from writers Steve Orlando and Sara Pichelli, as per a recent announcement by Marvel.
Orlando, Pichelli, colourist Matt Wilson, and cover artist Russell Dauterman are the creators of Scarlet Witch #1. The series, which debuts in January 2023, will follow Wanda as she embarks on a new adventure after the events of X-Men: Trial of Magneto.
The official synopsis of Scarlet Witch #1 reads: There is a door that appears only to those who need it most, who have no one else in the world to turn to. On the other side of this door is a mysterious witchcraft shop. Friend or foe, human or otherwise–if your need is great and your hope is gone, there you will meet the SCARLET WITCH! Wanda Maximoff is familiar with hitting rock bottom–and now that she’s finally found peace, she’s pledged all her power to help others who are languishing at their lowest. But when a woman falls through Wanda’s door with a terrifying story of a town gone mad, the Scarlet Witch will have to muster her wits and chaos magic to deal with an insidious threat!
Orlando said, “Since I first stepped into the House of Ideas, the Scarlet Witch has been with me. In fact, she was the star of my first Marvel work ever, kicking ass, weaving spells, and humbling Doom in Darkhold! So, there was no way I could pass up the chance to work on Scarlet Witch.”
Pichelli added, “You have been waiting for Scarlet Witch’s solo return for so long! Finally, that time has come and I’m truly honoured my art was chosen to make this happen. Can’t wait for you to see the book.”
Scarlet Witch made her debut in 1964’s X-Men #4, where she was first created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The twin sister of Quicksilver/Pietro Maximoff and the daughter of Magneto, Scarlet Witch is trained in magic by Agatha Harkness and frequently toes the line between good and evil. Wanda, a longtime Avengers member, was killed at the X-Men’s 2021 Hellfire Gala. Magneto was first held responsible, however, the show eventually reveals Wanda deliberately killed herself in order to be revived in a newly transformed state.
