DC is revamping and relaunching its comics app as DC Universe Infinite on 21 January. The original DC Universe service featured television shows and comics, but now that DC shows have moved to HBO Max, the platform will return to DC Comics roots by being a subscription for digital comics, featuring the largest collection of DC Comics titles anywhere, keeping the same $7.99-a-month price.
DC Universe Infinite is making over 25,000 comic books and graphic novels available to fans in digital format. The official press release said:
“Starting at launch, the platform will continuously add selections from DC’s iconic labels, Vertigo, DC Black Label and Milestone Media, the platform will also feature new comic releases six months after their in-store releases, as well as, Digital First titles available three months after launch, and brand new comic titles exclusive to DC Universe Infinite.”
Subscribers will have access to the massive DC Comics library of titles that span decades, as well as recent bestselling titles such as Hellblazer, Lucifer, Batman: Damned, Dark Nights: Death Metal, DCeased: Unkillables, and more.
“This is just the beginning of DC Universe Infinite’s transformation,” said Warner Bros president of global brands and experiences Pam Lifford in a statement. “Our fans will have access to a rich collection of their favorite comic books and publishing while connecting with a community that loves the same DC characters and brands.”
The service will have DC’s catalog and early access to comics six months after they’re released physically in stores. Additionally, DC says the comic reader in its app has been improved, and users will have more options to curate custom lists of titles.
DC Universe subscribers can keep on using their current account to access DC Universe Infinite, but will have to update the app after the launch in order to access the new customisable features.
