One of the new entrants in the Indian Comic Industry, Holy Cow Entertainment has quickly built up a promising library of titles with many more on the way. Their latest book ‘ Aghori Book 2’ is soon to be launched at Mumbai Films and Comic Con Later this month.
Before the launch, Comic Con India recently presented A Special Workshop. With Holy Cow Comics in Association With Leaping Windows.The workshop was conducted by Vivek Goel , Founder & Lead Artist, Holy Cow along with Ram V, Writer, Aghori Series.
These workshops are part of the on-ground promotion plan for the Mumbai Film & Comic Con (Oct 20-21, World Trade Center, Cuffe Parade).The workshop was held to talk about the process of creating their latest series ‘Aghori’ along with a special preview of their upcoming title, Aghori Book 2. The workshop was held on the 5th of October in Mumbai.
Aghori is Holy Cow Entertainment’s First “flagship” offering which represents the comics debut of fantasy / sci-fi writer Ram V, featuring art by Industry Heavyweight Vivek Goel ( Ravanayan, Phantom – The Ghost Who Walks ), Colorist Yogesh Pugaonkar (Ravanayan, Voltron ) and rising talent, Gaurav Shrivastav. It follows the journey of a man to the depths of hell, to save that which he holds dear.
Speaking on this occasion, Vivek Goel , Founder & Lead Artist, Holy Cow Entertainment stated,” There is no better way to learn than through understanding the creative process of developing a book.projects. This has been the USP of Holy Cow Entertainment and the response that the industry has given to this initiative speaks for the same.”
The workshop was attended by 20 talented artists and students from the comic background. Adding further, Vivek Goel said,” The workshop was amazing, a lot of interaction happened with the people who had come and it was nice to see people have a keen interest in the comic industry today. There were a whole lot of questions asked and We were quite pleased to answer them.”
“The objective of conducting this workshop was to bring together people who are interested in comics whether it be for reading them or understanding them. It is a way for the creators to connect with people who read their work and it also encourages aspiring artists or writers to hone their craft by getting a glimpse into how the medium is used.”
The workshop consisted of a session on Comic book art/sequential art by Vivek Goel and then a session conducted by Ram V on the process of “Writing in comics”. The workshop ended with a trailer showcasing the new book in the ‘Aghori’ series with a session focussing on the conceptualization of ‘Aghori Book 2’.
Sharing his experience, Ram V, Writer, Aghori Series. said,” Comics is the pictorial medium of storytelling and so pictures mark the most important part in a comic book. Its always good to meet like minded people. I was so comfortable speaking directly with 20+ people and the 1 on 1 interaction. They really loved the frame by frame development of a comic book from idea to thumbnail to finished pencil and to final coloured page. Places like these are a 2nd home for people like us.”
The workshop was conducted by Comic Con India. Adding further he said,”Our association with Comic Con has been a long one, we have participated right from the very first Comic Con in Delhi and till then we are an inseperable part of it. Our company also does outsourcing work for its subsidy “pop culture publishing”.
Sharing his thoughts over the workshop, Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India stated,”It’s an exciting time for the industry; you get to see new faces and names entering the industry every few months. The number of titles being published has certainly gone up and the quality is getting better as well. We certainly hope to bring our conventions and such workshops to more cities and add a lot more content to our existing ones.”
