The new Captain America Anthony Mackie is all set to star and executive produce Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions’ Twisted Metal, a live-action adaptation of the popular video game.
Deadline confirmed the news of Mackie starring in the show and reported Sony TV and PlayStation Productions are planning to take the series to buyers.
PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash said, “We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating.”
Twisted Metal is a series of vehicular combat video games published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and launched in 1995. The series has appeared on the PlayStation, the PlayStation two, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation three. According to reports the series has sold five million copies. The video game encompasses eight main installments and a pair of spinoffs, as well as a DC comic book adaptation.
Twisted Metal is high-octane action comedy were Mackie will play the lead role of John Doe, a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, he gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.
Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who came up with the original concept for the Twisted Metal TV show, serve as executive producers, Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) will be penning the script and also producing the show. Will Arnett and Marc Forman, through their production company Electric Avenue, will executive produce along with Peter Principato/Artists First. Mackie, his longtime manager Jason Spire from Inspire Entertainment, Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions) and Hermen Hulst (head of PlayStation Studios) will also executive produce the show.
