NBC Universal International Networks (NBCUIN) and Africa’s pay-TV platform Star Times have announced the launch of the DreamWorks family entertainment channel across Sub-Saharan Africa.
NBCUniversal International Networks EMEA managing director Lee Raftery said,“Collaborating with StarTimes on bringing DreamWorks channel’s award-winning shows and beloved characters to Sub-Saharan Africa is a key milestone for our business. We look forward to bringing young viewers the DreamWorks experience, with its compelling slate of adventurous and imaginative animated series, all in one family destination.”
The 24-hour channel will offer a range of content including animated TV series to African viewers. DreamWorks Animation is well known for its iconic characters and storytelling. The line-up on the service includes Dragons: Race To The Edge, All Hail King Julien and The Adventures Of Puss In Boots as well as Dinotrux and Noddy Toyland Detective.
Lily Meng, head of StarTimes Media Division, added: “We are excited to bring DreamWorks to Africa. This launch demonstrates our continuous commitment to providing premium content to African families. And it comes at a very timely moment, while most kids and parents are staying home.”
StarTimes has 13 million subscribers and 20 million streaming customers in more than 30 countries with 600+ channels. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
