Warner Bros is getting Looney again! Screenrant first reported that the classic cat and bird duo are returning in a brand new movie, King Tweety! Fans are invited to a royal Looney movie event as everyone’s favourite Tweety and Sylvester join forces in the upcoming Warner Bros.’ animated film!
King Tweety marks Tweety’s second starring role in a feature-length film, following 2000’s direct-to-video animated film, Tweety’s High-Flying Adventure. In it, Tweety attempts to fly around the world in 80 days to help Granny raise enough money to save a local park.
Ever since his premiere in the Oscar winning 1942 short A Tale of Two Kitties, Tweety has enjoyed the life of a titular Looney Tune. He has appeared in 46 cartoons over the golden age of animation between 1942 and 1962. Outside of the classic shorts, Tweety has made numerous appearances in other Looney Tunes media. If the Tunes are featured, odds are you’ll see Tweety with them! These appearances include films such as Space Jam, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and the new Looney Tunes Cartoons from HBO Max.
In King Tweety, everyone’s favourite yellow canary unexpectedly becomes next in line for the crown when the queen of an island paradise disappears. His Little Highness’ entourage includes motorbike daredevil Granny and sly Sylvester, whose allegiance is tested when he uncovers a sinister plot to eliminate Tweety for good. The home entertainment release also includes three bonus classic Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries cartoons, Something Fishy Around Here, The Maltese Canary and The Cat Who Knew Too Much.
King Tweety is just one of many celebrations to commemorate Tweety’s 80th anniversary. Warner Bros.’ “80 Years of Tweety” campaign will kick off in Austin at SXSW 2022 on 11 March, where the first group of 80 Tweety murals will officially debut. Each mural will be created by a different artist around the world. Loungefly is also joining the celebration with two all-new, Tweety-inspired products for fans of all ages.
Here’s the official synopsis: KingTweety is a brand-new, high-flying adventure featuring Looney Tunes beloved characters Tweety, Sylvester and Granny as they jet-off to the Canary Islands where Tweety is crowned king.
