Indian animation is gaining mass and as the velocity of development increases the effects of gravity are beginning to show.
Not only are big players from various other sectors in India attuning themselves to the animation current, but also animation studios big and small from across the world are getting attracted to India.
Istanbul based Marti Animation (MARTI Visual Arts Ltd.), has shared with Animation Xpress.com, its India`s strategy which includes opening of an animation studio in Chennai by `07. The Turkish studio also plans to collaborate with studios from across the country.
“We will be opening a studio in Chennai by the beginning of 2007. The team will consist of local talent as well as some key talent from our Istanbul studio. We are also in the midst of tying up with local studios from other Indian destinations for some of our other projects and are already working with Bangalore based Virtual Logic systems on a joint venture” stated Ali Murat Erkorkmaz, the founder of MARTI Visual Arts.
On being asked as to why India, Ali Murat replied that, “Quality and Competitive cost are two of the key factors that helped us make up our mind”
Ali Murat further elaborated on the India plans, adding, “Most of the work will come in from our studio in Turkey. However, instead of what most of the western companies do, creative work will be done in India rather than bulk work like clean ups. We rely on the talent of India rather than the manpower. Local content also is very crucial for MARTI as what the studio will produce as its own stories will be encouraged and distribution worldwide will be supported”
The Turkish studio has worked on TV series including Tombik & B.B, “Magica and the puzzle plaza”, “Robolabb”, “Mister Simon & J iggy Jiggy”, “Zig & Zag”, “Rotto Botto”, “Cartuna Show”, “Bekir, Terkir and the Tails”, “Minimarti”.
