The Addams Family’s highly-anticipated spinoff Wednesday, helmed by Tim Burton, is set to release between September and November on Netflix. Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as an older Wednesday Addams who has moved out of the family mansion and is now in college.
Cartoonist Charles Addams created The Addams Family, which has become Hollywood’s most loved franchise, books, animated films, series, dolls and various merchandise. To show the new side of The Addams Family, Burton has decided to focus on the eldest child of Morticia and Gomez. The spinoff series will follow the titular character as she attempts to hone her natural psychic abilities while still surviving school. The show is described as a young adult series and given Burton’s interest in the dark arts, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Wednesday also features Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Riki Lindhome as Dr Valerie Kinbott, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, and Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems. Danny Elfman is the music composer for the series.
With Wednesday, Tim Burton is making his small-screen directorial debut. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Miller, the series features characters based on the original comic strips of The Addam’s Family.
