Disney released the first look of its most awaited upcoming Disney+ show Tiana, a new original animated series on the life of the beloved Princess Tiana.
Walt Disney Animation Studios tapped Stella Meghie to direct the highly anticipated animated series Tiana, which is all set to premiere on the streamer in 2023.
Expressing her gratitude Meghie took to twitter and wrote, “Thank you to Walt Disney Animation Studios for entrusting me to continue Tiana’s story. Extend the legacy of Princess and the Frog. Writing and directing at @disneyanimation was a dream before I even knew it was possible. TIANA coming in 2023 to @disneyplus. #DisneyPlusDay”
Walt Disney Animation Studios CCO Jennifer Lee said, “Stella brings her immense talent, deep storytelling and love of Tiana and New Orleans to this project. Stella and the Tiana team have been dreaming up a series that takes Tiana to new places, both physically and emotionally, and is full of the unexpected.”
Following up after the events of the 2009 feature The Princess and the Frog, the animated series follows Tiana as she sets off on a grand adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia — but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.
Meghie is well known known for her feature films Jean of the Joneses, Everything, Everything, The Weekend, and The Photograph. Meghie has also directed episodes for television series including Grown-ish, Insecure and First Wives Club. She is also set to direct the Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
