Big news for Asian Animation, Graphics and Gaming!
In an exclusive conversation with AnimationXpress.com, ACM SIGGRAPH President Scott Owen has shared that Singapore would be hosting the 1st Annual SIGGRAPH Asia Conference and exhibition, dates for which would be announced at a press meet next week.
Professor Lee Yong Tsui, BSc, MSc, PHd of Nanyang Technological University will be the Chairman for the 1st annual SIGGRAPH Asia.
“SIGGRAPH Asia will be handled exactly in the same way as in the US and will have the same unique ambience and high quality and focus on the confluence of creativity and technology” shared ACM SIGGRAPH President Scott Owen.
“It will be an annual event and the hosting will be rotated around cities in Asia with prime candidates for the future editions being Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo and Melbourne. Eventually probably India too would host the annual event” he added.
“We have a lot of Asian members in SIGGRAPH and a lot of attendees for the annual event too, but due to Visa Problems, Long Distance as well as Financial implications, we feel that a lot of the creative as well as technical talent in Asia is missing out on attending SIGGRAPH. The ASIA event is the answer to that” shared Owen.
“One of the goals that ACM SIGGRAPH has is to increase the membership in ASIA by an additional five or six thousand members. We are reaching out to other local organizations to collaborate”
“13 out of the 15 members of the SIGGRAPH Asia steering commitee are Asian including Akshay Darbari from Bangalore, India” shared Professor Lee Yong Tsui, ” the papers chair is Kurt Akeley who chaired the SIGGRAPH papers in 2000, the animation chair is Jinny Choo from Korea, the art chair is Tomoe Moriyama from Japan, the courses chair is Matt Adcock”
