Quantum Gabriel Studio developing animated TV series based on Byomkesh Bakshi

Kolkata based studio, Quantum Gabriel is developing a new animated TV series based on Byomkesh Bakshi. The studio has completed the pre-production of the series and is ready to start the production. The core team of 15 artists of the studio are working on the series and has finalized the concept, character design and storyboarding. The series will be made in the format of 25 episodes x 10 mins.

The series is based on the fictional detective, Byomkesh Bakshi, in Bengali literature created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. He is one of the most successful detective characters in Bengali literature. In Bengali, Byomkesh means “the sky”.

Talking to AnimationXpress.com Sabeer Ahluwalia, CEO, Quantum Gabriel shared, “We are in talks with various regional channels through out India and investors for the series. And we are confident to complete this series in the next seven months. We are also targeting to release the film in India, United States, Bangladesh and MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region as we have previously been associated with these territories.

The series is targeted at the kids of the age group 8 – 14 years. The studio is developing the series in 3D animation and planning to dub the series in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Cannada, Malyalam, Bengali, English and Arabic languages. The film is jointly directed by Sabeer Ahluwalia, Adil Ahmad and Asif Khan.

About the challenges faced Sabeer asserts, “The main challenge that we faced is finding the investor and developing the character design of Byomkesh Bakshi. My team has re-designed his character around 5 times and only when we all were satisfied, we locked the design. And we are still looking for the investors which we should get soon”.

Byomkesh Bakshi has been adopted in various live-action TV series in the last century. Chiriyakhana a.k.a. The Zoo (1967) directed by Satyajit Ray and produced by Harendranath Bhattacharjya of Star Productions was the first screen adaptation of Byomkesh Bakshi’s cases. The film was a huge success with Uttam Kumar as Bakshi bagging his first National Award for the role and director Satyajit Ray receiving a National Award for best direction.
