Indore based Pitara Studio’ has picked up their very first award at the Sixth edition of CMS International Film Festival for animated short ‘Wish’ that was announced as the Best Animated Short yesterday at a ceremony at Lucknow.
A combination of 2D and 3D animation this 9 minutes & 58 seconds short, tells the story of a little girl, who dreams the postbox as flying, delivering mails, capable enough of knocking even the god’s door and how her letters addressed to god, start getting delivered and her wishes get fulfilled.
But, some revelations are at hand. Who was the ‘GOD’ fulfilling her wishes? What happens when the child comes to know of the truth?
AnimationXpress.com asks Divyansh Ganjoo MD of Pitara and Director of this film on the factors that he feels have made the movie to win and he says, “I feel it’s the simplicity which has worked for us! Be it simplicity in the storytelling or the characters. As a viewer I would define it as a “complex thought explained through the simplest way possible”.
Prior to this win, the short, which was created in 2 years time span, received IAD nomination last year and this year is one of the finalists at Jamurra online film festival and have also submitted ‘Wish’ for Delhi CG Animation Awards. “It has been a great journey with this film. It has been a process which evolved us as a team.” shares more
This film comes as the very first animation effort by Divyansh in which he gave utmost attention to storyboards along with studying behavioral aspects of kids.
Divyansh points out that the concept of ‘Wish’ is universal, and on this, we want to know how challenging it is to connect audiences to a kid protagonist, “I think everybody has a kid inside and as a film maker if your film doesn’t brings out that kid inside you after watching the film, I would never consider myself successful. So, according to me the concept is universal and if it is genuine it has to appeal to every class & age group of the society. “
Presently Pitara is working on a music video for Terry Duggins and has got a financer for their next short, which is set to enter production this June, and is directed by Keyur from the studio.
Closing the conversation with us, Divyansh has a piece of advice to give to the budding animation film makers. “Remember it’s the idea which matters! So develop it, frame it and then go for the execution part.”
