The streaming service Paramount+ released an exclusive clip and official poster for the fifth and final season of its animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks.
The first two of the 10 episodes from the upcoming season will premiere on the streaming service on 24 October, with other episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays. The season finale will air on 19 December.
The synopsis for the fifth season reads:
In Season 5 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” — subspace rifts which are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford… if they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries and scariest of all — their own career aspirations. This upcoming season is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.
The main cast of the show includes the “lower decks” crew played by Tawny Newsome (Space Force, Brockmire, Nuked) as Beckett Mariner, Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games, Logan Lucky, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) as Brad Boimler, Noël Wells (Master of None, DuckTales, Craig of the Creeks) as D’Vana Tendi and Eugene Cordero (Loki, Kong: Skull Island, The Good Place, Solar Opposites) as Sam Rutherford.
Other cast members are Dawnn Lewis as Carol Freeman, Jerry O’Connell as Jack Ransom, Fred Tatasciore as Shaxs and Gillian Vigman as T’Ana.
The show is produced by USA’s Eye Animation Productions, CBS Studios’ animation arm; California’s Secret Hideout; and LA-based Roddenberry Entertainment. The executive producers for the show include Alex Kurtzman, Mike McMahan, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Titmouse, the Emmy award-winning independent animation production company, is the animation studio for the series. Titmouse is known for animated projects such as Scavengers Reign, Agent Elvis, The Legend of Vox Machina and Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The series debuted on CBS All Access (later rebranded as Paramount+) on 6 August 2020. The second season was released on the streaming service between August and October 2021, the third from August to October 2022, and the fourth from September to November 2023. The series was nominated for Outstanding Sound Editing for Comedy or a Drama series (Half-Hour) and Animation twice, first in 2021 and later in 2024.
Star Trek: Lower Decks will launch directly on the streaming service in the US and Latin America, and is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
