Disney fans have a reason to rejoice! A couple of new promotional images of  Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming feature film, Raya and the Last Dragon has been unveiled online with a new release date.

The 59th animated feature from the House of Mouse which was originally slated to hit the theaters on 25 November 2020, has been now pushed to 12 March 2021 due to the pandemic.

Though the plot for the film is kept under wraps to avoid speculations and rumours, Raya and the Last Dragon is going to be an epic fantasy adventure with southeast Asian themes. Set in a realm called Kumandra -’a reimagined Earth inhabited by an ancient civilization’ that’s split into five different regions, the animated film will feature the land of the dragons, and a fearless, charming warrior named Raya, who is determined to find the last dragon.

Directed by Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins, Raya and the Last Dragon is co-directed by John Ripa, from a script by Kiel Murray (Cars 3) and screenplay written by Adele Lim. The film is produced by Osnat Shurer (Moana).

It stars Cassandra Steele (Degrassi: The Next Generation) as Raya, and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) as Sisu, a water dragon who’s also the Last Dragon and can transform into a human.

Raya and the Last Dragon which is said not to be a musical, will be Walt Disney Animation Studios’ first original animated film since 2016’s Moana.
