The Mexican pop star Rey Mysterio is getting his brand new animated series. Cartoon Network is all set to premiere its new original 10 episode action-comedy series Rey Mysterio vs. The Darkness in Latin America in 2022.
The local original series is produced by Mexican studio ¡Viva Calavera! and Mysterio. Earlier last week Mysterio hinted fans that something interesting is brewing and it will change the history.
The action-comedy series will feature Mysterio and his fan Oscar who fights against the supernatural and evil.
Here’s the official description for the show:
Rey Mysterio vs. The Darkness tells the story of Oscar, a wrestling fan, who will team up with his idol, Rey Mysterio, to face supernatural beings and fight against the forces of evil; villains from the world of wrestling and characters from Mexican traditions and the world of fantasy. Behind these extraordinary opponents is Uroboros, an evil fighter who uses dark forces that he does not fully understand. Rey Mysterio and Oscar must work together and do their best to defend the city and themselves from his evil plans.
WarnerMedia Kids and Family Latin America VP of content and original production Jaime Jiménez Rión said, “We are very excited to share this incredible production made in Mexico. We are confident that Cartoon Network and Rey Mysterio fans will enjoy the surprises we have in store for them and the show will meet their expectations.”
Studio ¡Viva Calavera! founder Hermanos Calavera said, “To have an action-comedy series on Cartoon Network is a dream come true. It’s great how it puts Mexico and lucha libre at the center, and the fact that it stars Rey Mysterio, whom we have admired since we were kids, is out of this world. We believe that fans will love this new series, which is the result of the work and passion of so many people.”
The animated series features Mexican graphic components with a wrestling aesthetic, anime and American cartoons. The visuals showcases the vibrant city and includes real fighting movements which will definitely be treat for wrestling fans.
