Netflix announced the leading cast of the much-anticipated live action series Avatar: the Last Airbender.
The streamer ordered the live action version of the famous animated show in September 2018. The original version aired on Nickelodeon 15 years ago. The series won multiple Annie Awards, Genesis Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Peabody Award.
Star cast includes Gordon Cormier (Lost in Space, The Stand) as Aang – the Last Airbender himself, Kiawentiio (Beans, Anne with an E) as Katara – Aang’s water-bending protégé and friend, Ian Ousley (13 Reasons Why, Physical) as Sokka – Katara’s sarcastic brother, Dallas Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, PEN15) as Zuko – the fiery prince in exile.
Netflix also confirmed that Albert Kim will serve as writer, executive producer and show runner. Kim previously worked on shows like Sleepy Hollow, Deadly Class, and Nikita. In addition with Kim, Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore, Michael Goi are executive producing the show. Roseanne Liang is the co-executive producer. Goi, Liang and Jabbar Raisani are also serving as directors on the show.
Original series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko were originally attached to create the series for Netflix, but they announced in August 2020 that they were no longer involved.
The series is yet to get an official release date. However, one can watch the original animated series, and all four seasons of Legend of Korra on Netflix.
