Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming animated feature film The Sea Beast, directed and written by Big Hero 6’s Chris Williams.
The story of The Sea Beast revolves around sea monster hunter Jacob Holland. His life is turned upside down when a young girl, Maisie Brumble, stows away on his ship and befriends the most dangerous monster of all, taking them on a grand adventure into uncharted waters. The film features the voices of Karl Urban (The Boys) as Holland and Zaris-Angel Hator as Brumble, as well as a supporting cast that includes Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens, and Kathy Burke.
The trailer begins with some world-building coming from a voice-over by Harris’ character as he sums up the gigantic scope of the story with the quote, “It’s where the map ends that the true adventure begins.” The teaser also features glimpses of some epic set-pieces on the open waters and stunning animation on offer from the award-winning creative mind of Williams.
Originally titled Jacob and the Sea Beast, the project was first announced back in 2018 as Williams’ next film after his work as co-director on the Oscar-winning Disney animated feature Moana. Williams is just one of many filmmakers to make the jump from Disney to Netflix in recent years, as the popular streaming service looks to up its game in the animation department. With recent Oscar-nominated films like 2020’s Over The Moon and 2021’s The Mitchells vs. The Machines, Netflix has shown they have what it takes to compete with the likes of the rest of the studio giants. The Sea Beast will be looking to continue the trend or even go a step further.
You can catch The Sea Beast when it drops on Netflix on 8 July 2022.
