Maya Digital Studios, the company that pioneered the art & technology of animation and visual effects in the 1990s; recently took the Indian animation industry by storm recently with its path-breaking in studio training initiative MIST.
MIST was launched with much fanfare at an event in Mumbai a 4 months ago. Hundreds of aspiring industry professionals thronged the event to be a part of this first of its kind in studio training module initiated by Maya.
With barely four months of operations, MIST has already laid the foundation stone for the studio careers of 201 budding animation, visual effects & 3D stereoscopy professionals. Maya Digital Studios, the studio that championed 3D Animation in India for almost two decades now has recently also forayed into 2D Animation. MIST gives an opportunity for young 2D Animation professionals too to taste the live production experience as they begin their studio careers.
Speaking on the occasion, Aruna Kumar – Head of MIST & Studio Ops said, “MIST is right launch platform for young studio professionals; as it gives them the experience of actual production work, right at the beginning of their studio careers, laying the foundation of a successful studio careers eventually. The response that we have received for MIST has just corroborated the need for an ‘In the studio, On the job’ training and the benefit that these MIST interns are getting out of the programme.”
MIST was started off as a strategic initiative by Maya in order to create an advance skilled workforce that will drive the future of this industry. Also the fact that Maya is currently working on several projects became an added incentive for the MIST interns since they get the opportunity to work on some of the biggest projects in the industry today. From Motu Patlu, Maya’s first 3D Animated TV series for the Indian market to Sholay 3D to its ambitious 2D Animation projects, Maya does provide an opportunity to train on some of the biggest and best projects in the market today.
“There is no better way to learn than while working on live projects to work on at the very beginning of the studio career. The exposure we get through MIST is tremendous.”, says an excited Vivek Pardesi, one of the MIST interns who is presently working on Maya’s maiden Indian animation TV series, Motu Patlu that airs on Nickelodeon.
Vivek is amongst the 1st batch of MIST Interns who have successfully completed their studio training stint and graduated into their paid internships with Maya.
Maya is adding wings to the studio dreams of many future professionals of this industry.
