Lost Marble reveals how their animation software Moho empowers digital storytellers

Attending Annecy Festival’s film market MIFA for the second time, Lost Marble experienced a warm reception from attendees who recognised their award-winning animation software, Moho.

Known for its powerful and user-friendly rigging and animation tools, Moho has become a staple for professionals and studios bringing characters and scenes to life. This proprietary vector-based 2D animation application has been instrumental in the creation of Oscar nominated films such as The Breadwinner, Song of the Sea, Secret of the Kells, and Wolfwalkers in the ‘Best Animated Feature Film’ category.

Interacting with Animation Xpress, Lost Marble co-founder Fahim Niaz and Moho Animation co-founder Victor Paredes shared insights into what makes Moho a preferred choice for animators. “Moho has been around for a while, but our claim to fame and our secret sauce is the rigging in our animation software,” Niaz shared. The software allows artists to draw directly within Moho or import artwork from other applications, streamlining the animation process.

Paredes emphasised their goal to create animation that coexists with traditional assets, stating, “We want our rigs to be indistinguishable from traditional animation but not replace it.”

Looking ahead, the company is preparing to release Moho version 14.2, which promises to bring even more robust features to its users. Discussing their expansion plans, Niaz highlighted their focus on emerging markets, “Traditionally we have been focused on North America and Europe. But we’re making inroads into India with our partner ARK Infosolutions and into Southeast Asia with our partner, ERAI Pixel. These are areas we see emerging and we definitely want to bring more awareness.”

In his final thoughts, Paredes stressed the importance of technology in preserving the human touch in art, “Any software must allow people to create and manipulate their own art without compromising on the human touch.” Both Paredes and Niaz are committed to ensuring their software serves as a powerful enabler for artists worldwide.
