Being a hands on mom surely has its benefits while acting. While giving her voice as Yashoda for India’s first animated stereoscopic feature film “Krishna Aur Kans”, Juhi Chawla said, “Being a mom helped me a lot while doing the voice acting, specially when Krishna was taken away by the tornado demon Trinavart. I had to feel that moment, if such a thing happens with my son Arjun, then what emotions will I feel. When you feel it’s happening to yourself, delivery of dialogues starts sounding real.”
Adding further, Juhi said, “I have never done this before. I was given a drawing and said – this is Yashoda and you can start the sequence. The animation will be done on your voice. I had to imagine her as a character and create her with my voice. This is indeed a completely new experience.”
Kamlesh Pandey has written the script of “Krishna Aur Kans”, a film that has taken four years in research and five years in making with 1200 artists working to create India’s first magnum opus in animation.
Manoj Bajpai while giving voice to Nand said,” This was my first experience as a voice over artist for an animated feature film. Whenever I used to see making of Hollywood movies, I used to admire and feel that if we could also have such facility to use our actors in different aspect. This is the beginning and it is a very impressive and happy feeling for me.”
The film is based on the life of Krishna, the story of his pre-birth, his naughty growing up years with his brother Blaram & friends and overpowering the demons till he defeats Kamsa.
Prachi Save while playing Krishna said,“I had certain images of Krishna in my mind while delivering the dialogues. I feel Krishna as a part of myself, we have all grown up with stories of Krishna as the best son, the best friend, a savior. He is our own, the story is our own and people must watch the brilliant spectacle that the film has turned out to be”.
Om Puri
Om Puri’s colossal portrayal of Kamsa sets the tone of the film as he emerges as the ruthless demonic super villain, putting Devaki and Vasudev behind bars as an aftermath to the prophecy that Devaki’s eighth son will kill him. Om Puri brings alive Krisha’s cruel maternal uncle to life with his enigmatic performance. Sachin and Supriya Pilgaokar’s performance as Vasudev and Devaki witnessing the helpless murder of their sons in the hands of Kamsa delivers a stellar performance.
A.K. Hangal deserves a special mention for his portrayal of Kamsa’s father – King Ugrasen. With a powerhouse performance, the courtroom scene with his son Kamsa where he is threatened to be imprisoned by his own son, stands out.
Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher as “Gargacharya” and Mukesh Khanna as “Akrur” have also lent their voices for the film. Krishna Aur Kans stands out with its script and performances in such a manner that the film indeed takes us back in time. It makes us relive the period when the emotional tides, the terror, the divinity and the fun and frolics all put together had the making of one of the greatest stories ever told, the story of Krishna and Kans.
