Indian animation studio Girgit Studios’ Kankhua will be screened at Mumbai International Film Festival 2024 (MIFF).
Kankhua is a short film that is part of Lalon and Q series, an IP developed at Girgit Studios. The series is filled with small thought-provoking stories for children as well as grownups. Each story is directed by animation storytellers from India and executed by a team of designers in a different style and treatment.
The official synopsis of the short film reads:
Being tormented by a deadly flood, a little Assamese girl ‘Hiya’ ventures to get help for herself and her grandmother. But her path includes a forest which is inhabited by the local boogeyman Kankhua.
The short film is directed by Arindam K Dutta, produced by Girgit Studios with creative producer Swarup Deb, creative director Anuj Kumar, story director Avinash Medhe and project coordinator Susmita Sanyal. The narrator is Lalon, character voices are given by Audio World, background music by Pallav Hazarika Kongkon Kaushik Bordoloi, and sound effects and mixing by Mayur Mochemadkar. The short film is animated by Dutta and Krishna Kothari, and composited by Dwarkesh Bodana in collaboration with Lalon and NID.

Kankhua will be screened on 20 June 2024, between 8:30 and 10:30 pm at NMIC auditorium – 1. MIFF is taking place from 15 June to 21 June at NFDC in Mumbai.
MIFF attracts filmmakers from around the globe, with its lineup of documentaries, short fiction, and animation films. This year, the festival has expanded its reach with parallel screenings in Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai. It was initiated in 1990 and organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.
