France’s TVPaint Développement has leveraged 33 years of expertise in animation software to devise TVPaint Animation, a renowned 2D animation software that was celebrated at the Annie Awards.

At the prestigious Annecy Festival’s MIFA market, TVPaint Animation introduced its latest release, TVPaint 12. Built on robust bitmap technology, TVPaint Animation lets professionals and studios bring their ideas to life by combining traditional 2D animation processes with the flexibility of digital tools. The company aims to recreate the tactile feel of traditional paper-based drawing experience with accuracy.

Amidst the lively atmosphere of MIFA, AnimationXpress caught up with TVPaint Développement communication officers Marie Adrien and Camille Traeger to learn more about the software’s latest update and its impact on the animation community.

Highlighting the eagerly anticipated new features of TVPaint Animation 12, Adrien said, “This update enhances the frame-by-frame animation process, and for the first time, allows the creation of puppets in our software! With our Bitmap Rigging feature, artists can quickly create bitmap animation without losing any quality.”

Additionally, the update introduces a new Modular Interface, Layer Folders, a new 2D camera, and an enhanced Converter. “TVPaint 12 incorporates completely revamped transformation algorithms which ensure superior image quality preservation,” emphasised Adrien.

Reflecting on user response, Traeger expressed satisfaction, saying, “As a small company focused on user perspectives, we maintain a close relationship with our community. We prioritise their feedback to swiftly develop and enhance our software. And so far, their response has been very positive, aligning closely with their expectations.”

The duo expressed optimism about the future of animation. Said Traeger, “At TVPaint, all of us are passionate about art. We absolutely love animation! We are committed to fostering connections with artists and studios, and promoting aspiring artists and their talents. We look forward to seeing many, many 2D productions in the future!”
