The first Sanskrit animated film, Punyakoti, has bagged its first Indian Film Festival selection! The Puppetica Media production and a Ravishankar Venkateswaran directorial, Punyakoti is now officially selected for Mumbai International Film Awards (MIFA). But as they say Cinema is language agnostic, the animation film has travelled beyond the borders to receive officially nomination and selection at Golden Harvest Film Festival (GHFF), Japan.
Elated on the selection, Venkateswaran shared with Animation Xpresss, “The official selection at MIFA is a great honour for Punyakoti. This is the first Indian film festival selection for the animated feature so it’s definitely special. Punyakoti will be listed in another Indian OTT platform next month. Our dream of reaching every home is getting realised one step at a time. The team will continue to work hard to provide good quality Indian animation content to an international audience. We look forward to the support of the entire animation industry in this journey.”
Punyakoti has won four awards at Animation Xpress’ ANN Awards in 2019, and received international acclaim for its creative excellence in storytelling and animation. It was a finalist at the New York Animation Awards in 2020.
Venkateswaran added, “The international film festival selections for Punyakoti is a testimony that we have created something that is of global standards. This is something that the animation fraternity can be proud of. Its listing on an Indian OTT platform next month helps us reach. The animated film will soon be streaming on another digital platform, revealed Venkateswaran. Punyakoti is now available on Netflix.
