Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that their upcoming long-form musical comedy series based on Moana for Disney+ will be directed by David Derrick Jr. The series was announced during Disney Investor Day 2020.
“David G. Derrick Jr. will direct Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana series for Disney Plus. Derrick first joined Disney Animation to work on 2016’s Moana, which deepened his connection with his family’s Samoan roots,” Disney Animation shared in a Tweet.
“Working on Moana was a gift, personally and professionally. The film Moana caught and shared the spirit of Polynesia with the world. I am honored to continue her story and to celebrate the rich and beautiful cultures of the Pacific Islands,” said Derrick in a statement.
Derrick is a story artist who joined Disney Animation to work on Moana (2016 feature film).
Moana, The Series will once again take her on adventures beyond the reef. He had done the storyboarding of some of the iconic moments of the animated film.
The upcoming series will be the first project produced at Walt Disney Animation Studios Vancouver.
