On Friday, Disney Studios revealed that the Lion King prequel Mufasa: The Lion King is in production. The film is directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins.
The film, a prequel to 2019’s live-action The Lion King will tell the story of rise of Mufasa to one of the greatest kings in the history of private lands.
The Lion King, is a remake of the 1994 animated classic which features the story of Lion prince Simba and his father who are targeted by his bitter uncle, and wants to ascend the throne himself. It was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff.
According to the reports, the story of Mufasa: The Lion King will be told through flashbacks as Rafiki, Timon and Pumbaa tell the story of Mufasa’s rise from lion cub to becoming one of the greatest kings of the Pride Lands.
The studio also revealed that Snow White’s remake will star The Hunger Games prequel actress Rachel Zegler and Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot. They will star as Snow White and her evil stepmother, the Queen, respectively. The latest live action feature is being directed by Marc Webb and will also feature some brand new songs.
So far, no release dates have been revealed for either of them, other than the fact that they are expected to debut in 2024.
