Disney Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2’ earns $295 million globally in first weekend

Sequel to the Academy Award winner film Inside Out, Disney Pixar released Inside Out 2 worldwide on 14 June, almost a decade after the first film. The coming-of-age story is set to become the biggest animated film of 2024. 

The sequel collected $155 million in its first weekend of release in the US, surpassing films like Dune 2, Godzilla vs Kong: The New Empire, and others, and has raked in $295 million globally.

Helmed by Kesley Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen, the film takes audiences back to the life of Riley who has adjusted to her new life in San Francisco and has recently turned 13. She navigates through new emotions including Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Envy who are brought into the headquarters as Riley is now a teenager. From critics to audiences, everyone’s in love with the new range of emotions and the way they make for an exceptional rollercoaster, making it a must-watch for all.

The first film had a Rotten Tomatoes score of 98 per cent followed by an audience score of 89 per cent and a lot of positive reviews on IMDb as well. The film grossed $856 million worldwide and $356 million domestically (US). The second part continues to rule the audience’s heart as reflected by Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 per cent and a high IMDB score of eight. The movie is doing great in India as well. According to various sources, the sequel collected eight crore rupees over the weekend. 

The film stars Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan reprising their roles from the original with Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kensington Tallman joining the sequel. 

Inside Out 2 is now in theaters in English and Hindi.
