ComGraphics & Animation 2006, the 6th International Trade showcase for computer graphics and animation techniques, products and services has lined up quite a few interesting Animation, Digital Art and VFX related activities.
The event which is organised by Singapore Exhibtion Services and is incorporated as a part of Broadcast Asia, is to be held in Singapore from 19 to 23 June 2006.
Speaking to Animation ‘xpress, Singapore Exhibition Services Project Director Jackson Yeoh stated,”We have been giving a thrust on animation, gaming and graphics for the last few years at the annual event. A lot of content is using visual graphics and we have tried to take a comprehensive approach to the same by having exhibitors of various related technologies, annual exhibits and showcase of animation & digital art as well as masterclasses by world renowned VFX experts”
“This year’s masterclasses will feature Rhythm & Hues VFX Superviser Bill Westenhoefer and Weta Animation Technical Supervisor on King Kong Shawn Dunn” he added.
The VFX masterclasses are being jointly presented by Singapore based Intense Animation Studios and the Singapore Siggraph chapter.
Besides the Masterclasses, Siggraph Singapore is also organising Comgraph 2006, the 7th Asia Pacific Digital Art and Animation competition which is sponsored by Adobe and Mediasoft Integration. (Comgraph 2006 and Comraphics & Animation 2006 are two separate events held concurrently and as part of Broadcast Asia)
Yeoh next spoke about the exhibtion and the number of animation and graphics related technology companies that are to exhibit, elaborating”We have a number of exhibitors for the Animation event including Autodesk Media and Entertainment, Avid Technology, Canopus, Click Grafix, da Vinci Systems, Geebo Digital Animation Studio, The Media Village, Reflecmedia, SpeedSix Software and Vizrt”
“Since the animation event is part of the larger Broadcast Asia event where many concurrent conferences and exhibitions will take place, we have come up with a special Broadcast Asia Technology trail where every category of exhibitor will have specific trails organised in categories like Computer Graphics & Animation, HD Technology, Tapeless Technology, PVR, VoD, Broadcasting to Handheld and IPTV” he added.
On being asked to differentiate between Asia Media Festival (held annualy in Singapore during Nov-Dec which also focuses on Television and Animation) and Broadcast Asia, Yeoh pointed out that,”Asia Media Festival is focused on Content, while Broadcast Asia is more about the technology that creates the end product”

Reaching out to potential Indian visitors Yeoh added” Because of the booming of Bollywood overseas, entertainment professionals should not miss attending the event. We have a lot of technology exhibitors from Digital Cinema to Broadcasting to the handheld. And since we have a concurrent event on VFX and graphics, it also becomes a good place to source creative talent and services”
Com Graphics and Animation 2006 is a part of the parent event Broadcast Asia 2006, which also incorporates Radio Asia and Asian D Cinema Summit.
The organisers anticipate an overall attendance of around 12,000 to 13,000 visitors this year. The total number of companies exhibiting at Broadcast Asia 2006 overall (including ComGraphics, Radio and D Cinema) is 739 with more than 88% from overseas from across 45 countries. The exhibtion will feature Nine country pavilions. Number of visiotrs from the Indian sub continent last year was 479.
Broadcast Asia is part of the Infocomm Business Media Exchange (imbX)which is Asia’s largest infocomm and media business platform. imbX is jointly oprganised by Singapore Exhibition Services and Singapore infocomm Technology Federation and is hosted by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA). imbX incorporates Communic Asia 2006, Broadcast Asia 2006, EnterpriseIT2006 and the iX2006 Conference.
