Chris Pratt leads ‘Super Mario Bros’ starry voice cast

Leading video game giant Nintendo announced the star-studded voice cast of the new animated film based on their iconic creation Super Mario Bros. where Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt will be heard as Mario. 

Anya Taylor-Joy known for Emma will voice Princess Peach and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day is all set to play Mario’s twin brother Luigi. We have Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

There will be surprising cameos done by Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario, the pudgy plumber from the Mushroom Kingdom for years. 

During the Nintendo Direct presentation, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the animated movie will release on 21 December 2022 in North America. The dates for Japan, Europe and other regions will be announced later.  

The movie is being co-produced by Miyamoto, with Illumination studio founder and CEO Chris Meledandri known for Despicable Me. Universal Pictures will look after the distribution.

The action-comedy will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. Matthew Fogel, of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part fame is responsible for the screenplay. 

Earlier, a live-action film titled Super Mario Bros. starring Bob Hoskins was released in 1993, which failed to impress the audience back then.
