Chris Miller is set to direct Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation’s untitled Smurfs musical movie.
The involvement of Miller, who directed Shrek the Third and Puss in Boots, was announced during Paramount’s panel at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France, which celebrates animation and gives studios a chance to make big announcements about their animated feature films; as first reported by THR.
South Park‘s Pam Brady is writing the LAFIG Belgium and IMPS production which is set for release on 20 December 2024.
Other upcoming Paramount Animation titles include Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated, Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, The Tiger’s Apprentice, and Untitled Transformers.
Paramount Animation president of animation and development Ramsey Naito said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to have such a talented group of people bringing audiences this latest rendition of the beloved Smurfs universe, including the incredible Chris Miller.”
The project will be overseen by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation executive VP of movies and global franchises Latifa Ouaou, along with Paramount Animation senior VP of development and production Emily Nordwind.
