Netflix has officially announced that WIT Studios anime series, Great Pretender will be streaming worldwide on 20 August. The release date was confirmed by Netflix through one of its official Twitter accounts.
WIT Studios is already well-known among fans of anime and manga. The studio is also responsible for adapting Attack of the Titans manga series into anime series.
Great Pretender follows the story of con artists and their scams. Here is the official synopsis of Netflix: Supposedly Japan’s greatest swindler, Makoto Edamura gets more than he bargained for when he tries to con Laurent Thierry, a real world-class crook.
The show has already premiered on Netflix Japan on 2 June, before debuting on Japanese television last 8 July.
The series is directed by Hiro Kaburagi (My Little Monster, 91 Days), with scriptwriter Ryota Kosawa and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (FLCL, Evangelion). It is produced by Maiko Okada, while Yutaka Yamada (Tokyo Ghoul, Vinland Saga) is handling the music score.
The Japanese voice cast includes Chiaki Kobayashi, Junichi Suwabe (Bleach, Black Butler), Natsumi Fujiwara, Mie Sonozaki (My Hero Academia, Fairy Gone), Yohei Tadano (Little Witch Academia, One Piece), and Kujira (Gin Tama, Naruto).
Great Pretender is currently scheduled to for 23 episodes, but only 14 episodes have released in Japan as of now.
