AFA launches in Coimbatore, in process of kickstarting degree course

It is the charisma of the speedy growth of India’s animation industry that many new institutes are opening across the country.

The latest animation institute that has announced its opening is Animation and Fine Arts Academy (AFA) which has begun its operations at Coimbatore. The institute is spearheaded by two experienced animation professionals B. Gokula Krishnan S. Suresh.

“This is one of the few institutes in Tamilnadu, which provides the students with the basic drawing classes for all courses, because basic drawing is the foundation for all. If you have good drawing skill and basic 2D knowledge, you can deliver excellent 3D works. So 2D is added advantage for the 3D animators,” says Krishnan. “The AFA’s syllabus is a well balanced with visiting faculties and outdoor visits to production studios with a standard DVD library,” Krishnan adds.

AFA offers specialized programs in 2D as well as 3D, whose duration varies from six months to two years. Some of them are part-time courses. Many of these programs include at least one month of project work.

The institute has also tied-up with Shri Rama Krishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore and is in the process of starting a three year full fledged degree course.

“We have tied up with Shri Rama Krishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore and are in the process of setting up a three year full time degree course with the approval from Tamil Nadu University. In all probability the degree course will kick-start from the next academic year” said Krishnan.
