The recent PlayStation experience event provided fans with a lot of takeaways, with release announcements and much more.
However, the fans would probably be the most excited about one particular confirmation, rather than an announcement. ‘The Last of Us 2’ was announced, which would be the direct sequel to the 2013 original. Only this time, it seems Ellie would be the protagonist.
In the new trailer which was released, an older version of Ellie can be seen playing the guitar accompanied by a son, which seems related to revenge. The camera soon pans to another character, Joel, the protagonist from the first part. While he walks towards Ellie, a bloody dead-body is also shown.
Soon, he confronts her and enquires, “What are you doing kiddo?…You really gonna go through with this? “Ellie puts the guitar down and reverts with absolutely cold eyes “I’m gonna find and I’m gonna kill every last one of them,”
In a blog post, Naughty Dog, creative director, Neil Druckmann wrote, “I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.”
He further mentioned that the game is in early development stages and the game is far from release, but we can expect more details on the game in the coming months.
