The gala 2012 BAF Awards Ceremony will be held on 15th March, the second day of the FICCI FRAMES Festival – Asia’s largest global convention on the business of entertainment. The Awards has 14 categories for animation, VFX and gaming industry and 5 special Jury Awards. Having received the entries from India, USA, UK, Japan, Taiwan, China, Canada, France, Australia and more, FICCI Frames announced the final nominees for the FICCI BAF Awards 2012.
The Best Animated Frames [BAF] Awards was started in 2004 by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Industry and Commerce [FICCI] to recognize and honour students and professionals in the field of Animation. This first ever Animation Awards in India grew over the years to encompass awards not only in Animation, but also in the VFX and Gaming fields. This year the awards have received more than 400 entries from across 10 countries.
In the category of Animated Short film- Student, France’s Supinfocom students short films- Jack and Chuck, Red, Douce Menace are competing with short film, Khatarnak Khai made by the student of NID, India and another short film, Happy Anniversary made by the student of School of Animation and Digital Arts, Communication University of China.
Krayon Pictures’ Delhi Safar from India is competing against Toei Animation’s Nijiiro Hotaru from Japan and Taiwan based F.
Rhythm 3D animation company’s Memory Loss in the Best Animated Feature Film (Theatrical Release). And in the mobile game category, India’s 7 Seas Entertainment’s Alexia The Great is nominated along with USA’s Electronic Arts for the games- NFS The Run Feature and Sims Medieval.
In the category of VFX in a Motion Picture, Redchillies.VFX’s Ra.One is competing with Prime Focus India’s Rockstar and Immortals, the VFX of which is provided by Prime Focus’ Mumbai & Vancouver facility.
The Awards ceremony is full of fun and excitement for all participants, especially nominees who eagerly await the announcement of the winners in the various categories. Brimming with immensely talented professionals, the festive BAF Awards night and banquet dinner is considered to be a great opportunity for industry professionals to meet and connect with each other.
