With FGOC, Flipkart enters the online gaming domain for the first time

Flipkart today commenced its Gaming Online Championship (FGOC) targeted at the gaming community in India in a first of its kind move in the Indian e-commerce market.

This is a month long online tournament being held between 3 June and 11 July and was announced in Bengaluru.

The increase in adoption of gaming across the country led to the design of an event which will bring Indian gaming community together on one platform.

FGOC will feature the top four games – FIFA, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), League of Legends (LOL) and Defense of the Ancients 2 (Dota 2). With one game being played each week, this tournament will have three team games of five players each and one game for individual gamers. The event will be live-streamed and showcased on Twitch – a live streaming video platform.

The tournament commences today with FIFA 16 (PS4), a game for individual players which will conclude on 9 June. The winner will be awarded an electronic gift voucher (EGV) of Rs 20,000 and the runner and second runner up will be awarded EGV of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

The second week (14 June – 20 June) will have teams participating in the League of Legends (LOL), followed by Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) in the third week (25 to 29 June) and the tournament will conclude with Defense of the Ancients 2 (Dota 2) in the fourth week (5 to 11 July). Winning teams of each game will be awarded EGV of Rs 50,000 and the runner up teams will receive EGV of Rs. 25000.

Registration for interested gamers had been open on Facebook Gaming page free of cost on 31 May and 1 June. There were no eligibility criteria for the gamers and anyone in India could participate. The final participants and teams have been determined on first come first serve basis. Both CS:GO and Dota 2 saw one of the highest ever team registrations in India with over 200 teams each.

This year one more eSports tournament is going to take place in India, ESL India Premiership. This one will be from the ESL in association with India’s Nodwin Gaming.
