When talking about gaming on laptop, it comes down to how much heat does it produce, how much does it weight and is it powerful enough to carry the load of today’s graphic heavy games?
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) might just have an answer for these questions. The company recently introduced a new graphics architecture, Polaris that will provide gaming grade performance without draining much of the juice from the laptop.
Engadget in a report said that Star Wars Battlefront, was 61 percent more energy-efficient when used with one of AMD’s future chipsets than a GeForce GTX 950 with similar performance. This could still lead to speedier visual in laptops and any other small PCs where heat and power are problems.
AMD has designed a 14-nanometer FinFET design which allows it to put in more transistors into the same space. One can also opt for extra upgrades which will provide for a better memory and also speed up the laptop. AMD is also providing with newer technology like HDMI 2.0a (for HDR video) and 4K-friendly HEVC video.
Along with these new specs, Polaris also will feature a number of new technologies, which include a 4th generation Graphics Core Next design which will be at the centre of things for this new graphic card. One would not have to wait long to get their hands on the first set of Polaris-based graphics which are due in the second quarter of the year.
One thing AMD needs to be do is to keep tab on rival NVIDIA which is to release a new graphic card based on its own 16nm FinFet architechture named Pascal later this year.
