Zootopia’s humourous trailer demands patience

Can a single joke be prolonged in an entire trailer? And, still keep the audience hooked? Well it can! Walt Disney Animation released a trailer yesterday for its upcoming animated feature Zootopia which is slow yet wholly entertaining.

Zootopia, the town of animals, has the swift rabbit police officer Judy Hopps solving cases within the designated tight deadline. And, now she has a case with a specified deadline of just 48 hours. But, as brisk and dedicated as she is, she is on the job to solve the case with the only evidence of a number plate.

Judy rushes with the license plate number along with her con artist fox Nick Wilde to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) which is operated by ‘Sloths’ who are relatively, really, utterly, reasonably slow! To tackle this, Nick takes Judy to the fastest sloth Flash, who according to him can finish the work in no time. But, what ensues is a mere outburst of laughter as Judy and Nick interact with Flash who takes an eternity to react, type, laugh or even say anything! Yet, Judy waits on the sloth and what she realises when she gets the information is going to make her case difficult to solve.

The trailer is colourful accompanied with a fast paced background music that allays in between. With the phase of the DMV including a slow staff, it reflects the DMV run by humans who are either lazy or slow to work. The voice cast includes Ginnifer Goodwin,  Jason Bateman, Raymond Persi, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate, Shakira and Tommy Chong. Directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, Zootopia is set to hit theatres on 4 March, 2016.
