The first trailer of the 24th James Bond movie S.P.E.C.T.R.E. (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) is out and James Bond is back to his reckless ways – getting in trouble with his seniors. Daniel Craig reprises the secret agent role again with Sam Mendes helming his second Bond movie after 2012’s massive hit Skyfall.
The trailer opens with Bond creating trouble at the ‘Day of the Dead’ festival in Mexico City and then being disciplined by M (Ralph Fiennes) – the new head for the secret service MI6. He lies that he was on a holiday which was long due and then asks Q to make him disappear.
We get a glimpse of Bond’s favourite Aston Martin and in this movie it’s the DB10. There are a few car chases and action sequences on road and with his new toy in tow Bond is certainly going to leave his enemies behind with a flame fuelled turbo button which fires up on the Roman bridge Ponte Sisto.
Mr. White, Bond’s nemesis too makes a comeback as his daughter Madeleine Swann holds something from his past which could unfold the nefarious mystery behind SPECTRE. As Bond gets deeper into Spectre he finds that there is some connection between him and the organisation.
Spectre headed by Franz Oberhauser played by Austrian actor Christoper Waltz, who according to some theories is hiding his true identity as the famous bond villain Blofled who headed Spectre in old movies. He is shown in shadows throughout the trailer only revealing him in the end saying,
“You came across me so many times, yet you never saw me. What took you so long?”
“It was me, James. The author of all your pain.”
The trailer draws inspiration from many of the old James Bond movies with some resemblance in the theme from On Her Majesty’s Secret Service to the chase sequence which is similar to Mardi-Gras scene from the 1965 movie Thunderball. Oberhauser’s Nehru jacket influenced from the character Dr. No. Also, the skeleton character shown in the trailer looks similar to Baron Samedi the villain from Bond movie Live and Let Die.
The official website reads:
A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.
Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.
As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.
The movie will hit theatres on 6 November.
