It is official the ‘King of Motion Capture’ Andy Serkis’s role gets confirmed in the much awaited space-adventure sequel, Star Wars – The Force Awakens. While the first official trailer of the upcoming Star Wars sequel sparked off rumors of Andy’s involvement as we heard Serkis’ deep voice in it, it was not until recently that Lucas Films hinted at Andy’s role.
The official Star Wars website has posted a new article about the famed photographer Annie Leibovitz and the Star Wars: The Force Awakens cover shoot she did for Vanity Fair. Providing an insight into Andy’s role, the article sported an unpublished photo of Andy Serkis in his comforting lycra Mo-Capped suit. Portraying an altogether new character, the Supreme Leader Snoke, Andy Serkis is sure to breathe life into an exciting new larger-than-life character on screen. With no other leaks and hints at how Andy’s portrayal would look-like, fans are only left guessing at what mo-capped character would be seen on screen voiced and enacted by the talented actor.
Serkis’ previous mo-capped versions gracing the silver-screen include Gollum from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series that won the actor various accolades for personifying the grim, tennis ball-eyed, Smeagol. Apart from Gollum, Serkis has portrayed the 30 footer simian, King Kong in Peter Jackson’s visual spectacle King Kong (2005) and also as the rebellious Ape ‘Ceaser’ in the Rise of the Planet of Apes saga.
Helmed by the Star Trek director, J.J. Abrams, Star Wars – The Force Awakens continues unraveling the space adventures created by the legendary George Lucas, which begun way back in 1977 with six of the previous instalments amassing a whopping $3.97 billion world-wide.
Reprising their fan-boy favorite roles from the Star Wars universe, The Force Awakens stars Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca along with a younger and newer star-cast.
Star Wars – The Force Awakens unfolds the seventh chapter in the Star Wars universe and will be set thirty years after the Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983) and hits theatres on 18 December 2015.
