Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar satiated his need for speed at the launch of India’s largest rooftop Go Karting arena – Smaaash sky-karting in October 2014 and now is making the brand a global name.
Co-owned by Sachin Tendulkar, the Mumbai-based Smaaash Entertainment is all set for an international debut as it targets markets such as Germany, London and the Middle East for its gaming and recreation centres.
Smaaash Entertainment, the city’s first immersive and interactive sportainment zone, revolutionises the gaming experience with powerful simulative technology and an innovative design. Smaaash has always inspired its audiences to go the extra mile, by creating an edge of the seat experience with its numerous unique attractions like world’s first 360 degree Cricket simulator, Twilight Bowling, the Super Sonic Goalie and many more. The sky-karting circuit will prove to be a game changer in the sports-entertainment industry by challenging the status quo and is sure to ‘Up the Game’ for all!
The promoters are in the process of raising close to Rs 200 crore from the market for funding the project along with India expansion. Shripal Morakhia, founder of Smaaash Entertainment, is a minority stake holder in the company that was set up in 2010, along with Tendulkar and FW Sports Investment Fund LP, a Mauritius-based private equity fund.
The fund acquired a significant minority stake for about Rs 100 crore in the company last year. The company will set up special purpose vehicles (SPVs) in the overseas markets to execute the blueprint.
For the company, virtual reality game will be a focus area. Currently, they are developing 24 new soccer games in partnership with a world-class player. These games will be a combination of real and virtual sports. While Smaaash has been operating a 1.2 lakh square feet gaming and entertainment destination in Mumbai and another one in Gurgaon, there are plans to enter other destinations like Bengaluru, Chandigarh soon, before venturing into the German, European and Middle Eastern markets.
