Climb Media’s latest short film production Komal has won the prestigious national award in the Best Educational Film category. But what makes Komal unique is not just the sweep of the awards it has witnessed, but the fact that it is perhaps the most popular, well-researched poignant short film on the vexed issue of Child Sexual Abuse.
Komal is a bright, sensitive and happy 7 year old girl. Her new neighbor – Mr. Bakshi who has just moved in is her father’s old friend. Komal bonds with the affable Mr. Bakshi with whom she has a whale of a time. Until Komal discovers Mr. Bakshi’s bitter reality; in the movie, Childline Didi explains to children the concept of Safe and Unsafe touch.
Writer, creative producer Kireet Khurana: “I am extremely proud of this little gem. Even though this is my 6th National Award, this film is the most sensitive and poignant film among them. We have had a great run with Komal, winning slew of awards and recognition India and abroad.”
Director Prashant Shikare was lost for words on his first National award: “I am proud that Komal has won the National Award. It is a very deserving film. I am thankful for Team Climb Media’s faith in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity.”
Komal was made out of funds procured by Childline from viewers of Satyamev Jayte and Reliance Foundation. The film has fulfilled a huge communication gap in the space of Child Sexual Abuse. It has an astounding 7 million views and shares so far already and is available in 15 Indian languages and accessible versions online.
Childline, head – communication & strategic initiatives, Nishit Kumar added: “Congratulations to Kireet and his entire team that worked on this wonderful film! We (Childline) researched the script with child Psychologists and the film has been crafted by Kireet and his team with huge insight into the child’s mind and a great sensitivity about the subject.”
The film has been sought by Childline from countries ranging from USA to Philippines, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Afghanistan, Tibet, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia and several others. The film is also going to the UNCHR as it has been sought by them to show at Refugee camps worldwide.
