Sons of Ram, Amar Chitra Katha’s (ACK) first theatrical stereoscopic 3D animated feature film is slated to release on 10th August, 2012. The feature is based on the Uncle Pai’s comic book, and will also broadcast on Cartoon Network.
ACK Media’s Kushal Ruia has written and directed the movie combining familiar elements of the comic with fresh ideas that help tell the story of Luv and Kush like never before. For the theatrical release the feature is being converted into stereoscopic 3D by Maya Digital Studios.
Speaking to Animation Xpress.com, Kushal Ruia, Creative – Head Animation at ACK says, “It was always an intention to create a stereoscopic 3D animated movie and when the artwork kept coming in more and more people wanted to make it a theatrical release and we managed to keep at it considering the constant challenges in Indian animation industry.”
About stereoscopic 3D conversion Kushal asserts, ‘It is normal today to have a stereoscopic conversion done to movies especially in animation. Since, Sons of Ram has been developed as a 2D animated film and the outlook is flat, I strongly feel that stereoscopic conversion of such films has more value than a film which is already made in 3 Dimensions like CG film or live action film. But, when 2D film is converted into stereoscopic 3D it has more amazing effects & beautiful outlook.”
According to Kushal, Sons of Ram is not like a typical Bollywood feature film. It has songs which will actually take the story forward so if you skip a song you will probably miss some part of the story. Songs are an integral part of the script-writing process of the story.
‘Sons of Ram’ is in the last stage of production and the distribution of the movie is primarily done by ACK along with couple other partners. The movie will be released in multiple-languages across India. ACK is also planning to release the feature in other countries as well. The film will be broadcasted on Cartoon Network.
About the deal with Turner International India, Krishna Desai, Director, Programming South Asia Turner International India Pvt. Ltd, shares, “We have a broadcasting deal with ACK for Sons of Ram for the 2D version of the film which was meant for TV. And will be announcing the date of airing the feature on Cartoon Network soon”.
Apart from Sons of Ram, ACK is currently working on their upcoming animated series Suppandi.
