South Korea’s largest media and entertainment conglomerate has decided to foray into the animation industry with the launch of Robot Trains RT, a new television series in production.
The newly set up animation unit has been mandated to keep the focus content development and investment, production, distribution, licensing and character production. The initial investment is close to $15 million. There will be a dedicated team that will focus on China.
Han Ji-soo, head of animation department told reporters at a press conference that the company’s aim is to become the leading animation company in Asia. A licensing agreement signed with DreamWorks Animation will also contribute to the new division as well as expand into producing more localised goods for a wider demographic audience with DreamWorks characters.
Robot Trains RT is a story about train shaped heroes trying to save their village. “With aggressive investment and tactful marketing, we are putting forth our best efforts to produce a variety of high-quality animations in order to lead the global market and give a boost to the local animation market as well,” said Han.
