Fedor Bondarchuk to helm Warner Bros.’ Greek Epic ‘Odysseus’

Warner Bros. studios has hired Russia’s Fedor Bondarchuk to direct their large-scale take on Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. Bondarchuk is the son of Oscar-winning helmer Sergey Bondarchuk, is an actor, producer and on-air host who last fall directed Stalingrad.

The Odyssey also knows as Ulysses to 80’s cartoon fans, is a story about the Greek king who returns after a decade away fighting the Trojan War; encountering many perils and mythical beasts, including the Cyclops Polyphemus. The character was actually played by Sean Bean in the movie Troy, though that adaptation removed all fantasy elements from the story.

Jeremy Doner is scripting for the same. Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari is producing along with Bernie Goldmann and Shannon Gaulding. Bondarchuk has partnered with Michael Schlicht and Paul Heth as well as Niija Kuykendall and Jon Gonda who are overseeing for the studio.
