Mowgli is back in the jungle, and this time he is bringing plenty of chaos along for the ride. JioStar’s Kids & Family portfolio is set to premiere Jungle Tales with Mowgli, a slapstick comedy take on the classic tale, on JioHotstar and Disney Channel on 12 September at 2 pm.
The series follows 10-year-old Mowgli, a curious and mischievous jungle dweller whose knack for trouble turns everyday adventures into comic escapades. With slapstick chases, situational comedy and plenty of playful banter, the show puts a fresh spin on a familiar world.
Joining Mowgli are some old jungle favourites. Baloo and Bagheera return as his friends, while Sherkhan, Kaa and Tabaqui take on the role of rivals. The familiar faces are designed to strike a chord with parents while introducing a new generation of children to the characters.
JioStar Hindi & English entertainment business (streaming, TV & studios) head Alok Jain stated, “Some characters are evergreen and have the unique ability to belong to more than one generation. Mowgli is one of them. Through our latest launch, Jungle Tales with Mowgli, we wanted to take the timeless world of The Jungle Book and reimagine it with the energy, humour and sensibility of the contemporary kids and families of today. We see this story as one with a very strong universal appeal, a story that has the power to connect with children and families across the length and breadth of the country, one that they will love watching together.”
The launch comes backed by a multi-screen campaign spanning the JioStar network and JioHotstar. Jungle Tales with Mowgli has already made an appearance at Anime India, where it connected with fans and tapped into childhood nostalgia.
The campaign will now move into malls and other family-focused touchpoints, while its digital leg will bring creators from different age groups into the mix to amplify the show and its nostalgic appeal. Nivea and Tedibar have joined the series as co-powered by sponsors, adding another layer to the launch.
The series is also the 16th local IP from JioStar’s Kids & Family portfolio, joining titles such as Motu Patlu, Chikoo Aur Bunty and Bittu Bahenebaaz.
With a familiar hero, a mischievous streak and a jungle full of troublemakers, Jungle Tales with Mowgli is betting on an old story with a new-age comic beat because when Mowgli is around, peace was never really on the cards.
