Angel has set 21 October as the premiere date for season four of The Wingfeather Saga, dropping a new poster and first teaser for the animated fantasy adventure series while unveiling Dan Stevens as the latest addition to its expanding voice cast.
Stevens, known for Beauty and the Beast, joins the series as Esben Wingfeather, adding another familiar voice to the fantasy world based on Andrew Peterson’s bestselling novels.
The new season also welcomes Jim Broadbent as Bonifer Squoon, Nadia Quinn as Madame Sidler, Sam Clark as Rudric, Noah Rafferty as Grigory and Lin Gallagher as Olumphia. Returning cast members include Jodi Benson as Nia Wingfeather, Kevin McNally as Podo Helmer, Alkaio Thiele as Janner Wingfeather, Henry Witcher as Kalmar Wingfeather, Romy Fay as Leeli Wingfeather, David Oyelowo as General Timber, Kari Wahlgren as Amrah, Murgah and Freva, and Henry Ian Cusick as Artham Wingfeather. Matthew Rhys, who voices Gammon, is set to return for season five.
Season four adapts The Monster in the Hollows, the third book in Peterson’s bestselling series. The story follows the Wingfeather family as they flee Gnag the Nameless and his army of fangs, sailing north towards the Green Hollows.
But sanctuary, naturally, proves complicated. Kalmar’s fangish appearance is met with fear and suspicion, while Nia reconnects with old friends and traditions. Meanwhile, the younger Wingfeathers enter guildling hall, where Leeli studies Houndry and Kalmar and Janner train with the Durgan Guild.
The family’s attempt to settle into the seemingly peaceful society of Ban Rona is soon threatened by growing distrust and unexpected conflict, putting both their honour and safety on the line.
Angel is clearly betting on the saga’s long flight. The studio greenlit season five in June at Annecy’s Mifa market, with a fall 2027 debut already planned. The series was Angel’s top-rated title of 2025 and currently holds a 97 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes an online review-aggregation website.
Behind the scenes, Nashville-based Shining Isle Productions produces the series as its first project. The team includes veterans from Pixar, DreamWorks Animation, Valve, Blue Sky Studios and VeggieTales, bringing considerable animation pedigree to the production.
The studio has also developed a proprietary character animation pipeline in unreal engine to achieve the show’s distinctive hand-painted CG aesthetic. Angel handles distribution, with Lion Forge Entertainment supporting international distribution. The first three seasons are currently available on Angel’s streaming platform and app.
With a new season, an expanded cast and another chapter already waiting in the wings, The Wingfeather Saga is showing no signs of clipping its wings.
The flock is growing. The stakes are rising. And this fantasy adventure is ready to take flight once again.
