Wargaming celebrates 15 years of ‘World of Tanks’ with milestone 2.0 update

The global video game company Wargaming has announced the launch of World of Tanks 2.0, the biggest update in the game’s 15-year history. This release marks a new era for the title, transforming the experience for veterans and newcomers alike with modernised systems, smarter gameplay, and the wide range of giveaways the game has seen since launch.

At its core, the game is a team-based online experience where players command mid-20th-century tanks in strategic, multiplayer battles. With a roster of over 800 historically inspired vehicles from 11 nations, each tank belongs to one of five distinct classes, ranging from nimble scouts to heavily armored juggernauts. The variety in design and playstyle means each match unfolds differently, offering a mix of tactical depth and unpredictability.

The latest update marks a new chapter for the game title. One of its major features, The Garage that is regarded as the game’s central hub, has been reimagined into a cinematic, factory-inspired space where every tank takes centre stage. Enhancing the experience further, a new in-game armor viewer allows players to examine vehicles in detail, plan strategies, and identify weak points with ease, making it simpler to master each tank’s strengths and vulnerabilities. Adding to an already stacked tier I to X, sixteen new tier XI vehicles arrive with new mechanics. The gameplay has also been refreshed with smarter matchmaking, fairer balance, and stronger stock tanks making battles engaging from the start.

Another highlight of the update is Operation Boiling Point, the latest chapter in the game’s evolving story mode. While PvP remains at the heart of the game, story missions introduce a narrative-driven, cooperative mode that welcomes newcomers and offers veterans a fresh challenge. The update 2.0 makes the game more accessible both to new and returning gamers.

World of Tanks 2.0 has introduced a cleaner interface, smoother progression, and simplified mechanics that make the game more accessible to new players. These improvements are enhanced by dynamic events, authentic tank sounds recorded from real machines, and the adrenaline of battles that come alive from the very first shot. All these features are tailored to meet the expectations of Indian players.

World of Tanks 2.0 is our way of saying thank you to the community that has stood with us for 15 years. Every update, every battle, and every story has been shaped by our players, and this new chapter is a celebration of their passion and dedication that continues to drive the game forward. We’ve modernised the foundation, added new depth for veterans, and made the entry experience more exciting for newcomers. Whether you’ve been away for years or you’re just starting, now is the perfect time to jump back into the battlefield,” said a spokesperson from Wargaming.

To celebrate its anniversary, the gaming company is giving away the largest rewards package in its history. New players can join the game with the invite code “Combat“ and immediately receive the Cromwell B premium tank, three additional rental premium tanks, credits, and premium account time to kick start their journey. Returning players who have been away for 30 days or more will be welcomed back with premium time, an exclusive camouflage, and a rental tier VIII premium tank, or credits if they already own it.

In addition to that, every player will receive a grand one-time gift to celebrate the game’s crystal anniversary. Newcomers will get access to the entire tech tree branches, multiple premium tanks, millions of credits, equipment, and customisation items. Along with that, veteran players will unlock their own massive bundle, including researched branches, gold, bonds, crew orders, customisation, and 60 days of premium time. Both groups will also be able to take on bonus missions stacked with extra rewards. This is available until the release of the next update in mid-October.
