Anime adaptation of the well known manga Sakamoto Days is coming to Netflix. Directed by Masaki Watanabe and written by Taku Kishimoto, the series promises to bring the action-packed and comedic world of Taro Sakamoto to life.

Written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki, Sakamoto Days has seen significant success with five million copies circulated as of May 2024. The story follows Taro Sakamoto, a legendary assassin who retires after falling in love with a convenience store clerk named Aoi. Now out of shape and focused on his family life, Sakamoto retains his superhuman skills and strength. During extreme situations, he sheds his extra weight and regains his former power, ready to protect his loved ones.

Suzuki expressed his gratitude to the fans, saying, “I want to express my gratitude to the fans, whose support made all of this possible. I hope you will continue to join me in building up Sakamoto Days! Please enjoy the show!”

Regarding his vision for the series, director Watanabe stated, “When I first had the chance to read Sakamoto Days, I remember how electrifying the powerful action scenes were. Keeping that feeling at the heart of production, I want to take all the components unique to the screen — movement, colour, and sound — to make Sakamoto Days a dynamic and fast-paced anime, while keeping in mind the humour sprinkled throughout the original. We intend to faithfully portray the character of Sakamoto, the family man and the killer who doesn’t kill. Our staff are putting their all into this, so stay tuned!”

TMS Entertainment, known for renowned anime franchises such as Detective Conan, Lupin the Third, Monster Farm, is the studio behind this adaptation. Sakamoto Days will premiere worldwide on Netflix in January 2025, with episodes released weekly.
