The Nag Ashwin-directed Kalki 2898 AD starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone is set to release this year. The sci-fi film is set against the backdrop of Indian mythology and Vyjayanthi Movies. Before Kalki 2898 AD enters theatres, the filmmakers will release an animated prelude to the film. The prelude is expected to give the audience a better understanding of the central idea of the film.
According to the entertainment news website Pinkvilla, Ashwin and Vyjayanthi Movies have created the animated prelude which will premiere on a leading digital platform. The release date and the platform have been kept under wraps. “The prelude to Kalki will give the audience a glimpse into the world of this Nag Ashwin directorial. It’s a one-of-its-kind extended video in the animated format, wherein Prabhas himself has dubbed for his character,” the website quoted a source close to the development.
“The digital player has paid a bomb to acquire the animated film and this will be a global premiere, leading to the starting point of Kalki on the big screen,” the source was quoted. “This is the first time that an Indian film will have a prelude, and the makers are sticking to their vision of making and marketing a film at global levels. The output of animation is also at par with the best in the world.”
The action sequences, battleships, dilapidated backgrounds, post apocalyptic cities revealed in the trailer of Kalki 2898 AD, make it a highly-anticipated VFX-heavy film of the year. It is slated to release in India on 9 May 2024.
